First-ever DEF CON. Stayed at the Rio All-Suite (confirmation # BDTPK still in my inbox).

Vegas in the off-season is a strange place. The convention rooms were full of people in t-shirts taking notes on lock picking and packet sniffing while the casino floor outside hummed along like nothing was happening. I came back several more times for the same conference.
